The North Woods Partnership
Project Story Boost Training Session
Wednesday, October15th, 2003
4:00-7:30 PM
At the Ella P. Burr School in Lincoln, Maine
Project Story Boost is a low cost literacy intervention for “at-risk” kindergarten children which began as a collaboration effort between the University of Southern Maine and the Portland, Maine public schools and has since extended throughout southern and central Maine. It is designed for children who have had limited exposure to storybooks, who lack the basic understanding about print, or whose first language is not English.
The effectiveness of PSB has been well researched and documented. An article describing PSB was published in the September 2001 issue of The Reading Teacher (Vol. 55, No. 1) and may be downloaded from the Project Story boost Resource Center Web site at www.usm.maine.edu/cehd/psbrc.
Ms. Susan Derector, coordinator of the Project Story Boost Resource Center will be conducting the training that is expected to take approximately three and a half hours, including a light dinner break.
Any districts that wish to purchase the PSB training video ($20) may order it directly from the previously mentioned web site or contact Ms. Derector at derector@usm.maine.edu and arrange for her to bring it that night.
Those wishing to attend are encouraged to RSVP by October 8th to the Ella P. Burr School 794-3014.
The cost of this training session is being generously funded through the North Woods Partnership. Therefore, there is no charge to any of the participants. CEUs will be awarded to those attending.
